The Weaver — Terms of Service
Effective date: 2026-09-14
The Weaver's early-access release opened on itch.io in July 2026. This is the first published version of these terms. They apply from today forward; we are not claiming they governed anything before they existed.

0. Who you are agreeing with
These terms are between you and SUNRUNNER STUDIOS, a sole proprietorship registered in Ontario, Canada (Business Identification Number 1001606849, registered 2026-05-12), operated by Al Morrish. We are a one-person studio. Where these terms say "we" or "us", that is who it means.
1. The short version
The Weaver is a desktop app from Sunrunner Studios that uses AI to act as a tabletop RPG game master. By installing and using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't install it.
The Weaver is currently in early access (beta). Things may break. Save files may be lost. Features may change. We are working in good faith to make a good product, but we are not promising perfection.
2. What The Weaver is
The Weaver is desktop software that runs on your own computer. To work, it needs you to bring your own API keys for AI providers (Google Gemini at minimum; optionally Groq, Anthropic, OpenAI). Sunrunner Studios does not run the AI models. We do not host your campaigns. We do not bill you for AI usage — you pay your providers directly through their normal billing.
3. License
The Weaver is currently in early access on itch.io, offered pay-what-you-want with a zero minimum — you may download and play it without paying anything, and you may contribute if you want to support the work. Pricing at v1.0 has not been announced. Early-access participants receive a free copy of v1.0 as a Founder thank-you and will not be charged for it.
Once you have lawfully obtained The Weaver (whether free as an early-access participant / Founder, or via a future purchase), Sunrunner Studios grants you a perpetual, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to install and use The Weaver on devices you own or control, for personal or small-group tabletop play. You may not resell the app, distribute modified versions, or use it as part of a paid service to others without our written permission.
The Weaver is distributed on the honor system — there is no DRM, no license-key check, and no online activation. We trust our users to pay if they would not otherwise have lawful access. We will not pursue technical or legal action against individual users for personal use that fell outside this honor system, but we will pursue commercial-scale redistribution.
If we open-source any part of the project, that part is governed by its own license, which takes precedence for that code.
4. Your providers, your responsibility
You agree that:
- You are responsible for your own AI provider accounts and any charges they incur. We have no visibility into your billing and cannot reimburse, dispute, or refund provider charges.
- You will follow each provider's terms of service. If Google, Groq, Anthropic, OpenAI, Cloudflare, or any other provider terminates or restricts your access, that is between you and them.
- The keys you paste into The Weaver are real credentials. Do not share screenshots of the Settings screen with the keys visible. Do not commit them to public repositories.
5. AI-generated content
The Weaver uses third-party AI models to generate narration, NPC dialogue, scene descriptions, and rule adjudications. These models can:
- Make mistakes about facts, rules, or game state.
- Produce content that is uninteresting, repetitive, or wrong.
- Occasionally produce content that surprises or unsettles the table, even with our content rails in place.
You acknowledge that this content is for entertainment, that it is not legal, medical, or professional advice, and that Sunrunner Studios does not warrant its accuracy, appropriateness, or fitness for any particular purpose. If something goes wrong narratively, the cure is to redirect the Weaver, change the tone, or end the session — not to escalate to us.
6. Your content
Your campaigns, characters, world notes, and adventure transcripts are yours. You retain ownership of anything you create or input. By using The Weaver, you grant Sunrunner Studios no license to your content beyond what is technically necessary for the app to function on your machine — which, in practice, means almost nothing, because your content stays on your machine.
If you choose to share campaign content with us — for example, by sending a transcript with a feedback message — you grant Sunrunner Studios permission to read it for the purpose of improving The Weaver. We will not publish, redistribute, or train models on what you send without your further consent.
6.1. Group-play participant consent
When you host a multi-player session, your campaign transcript and any captured audio may include content from other players at your table — their words, character actions, voice recordings before transcription, and so on. As the host, you are responsible for getting consent from those players before sharing any session content with us or with any third party. This includes sending us a transcript via feedback, posting recordings publicly, or sharing screenshots that name or identify the other players. We cannot enforce this on your behalf; we rely on you to treat your players' contributions the way you would want yours treated. If we receive a removal request from a player (not the host) for content we hold, we will honor it to the extent we technically can.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use The Weaver to harass, harm, defraud, or impersonate anyone.
- Reverse-engineer or distribute the packaged app for the purpose of removing the BYOK model or evading provider terms.
- Attempt to extract another user's keys, campaign data, or session content.
- Use The Weaver to generate content that is illegal where you live (e.g., CSAM is forbidden everywhere we operate; content rails are present, but ultimate responsibility is yours).
- Use The Weaver to spam, scrape, or attack any AI provider's API in violation of their rate limits or terms.
We may discontinue support for an installation that we have credible reason to believe is being used in violation of this section.
8. Early access (beta) status; no warranty
The Weaver is provided "as is" and "as available." During early access:
- Features may change, be removed, or temporarily break between releases.
- Your local save data may become incompatible across major versions; we will provide migration tools where reasonable but cannot guarantee zero data loss.
- Auto-updates may install new versions without further consent unless you have disabled them.
Sunrunner Studios disclaims all warranties to the maximum extent allowed by law, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. No oral or written information from us creates a warranty not stated here.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Sunrunner Studios is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages — including lost campaigns, lost time, lost provider credits, or emotional distress from in-fiction events — arising out of your use of The Weaver. Our total liability for any claim related to The Weaver is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid Sunrunner Studios for the software (currently zero), or (b) USD $50.
10. Termination
You can stop using The Weaver at any time by uninstalling it. We can stop offering the software, withdraw a release, or terminate this license at any time, with reasonable notice when practical. If you violate Section 7, we may terminate immediately.
10.1. Support policy (post-v1.0)
What a future v1.0 purchase is intended to entitle you to (pricing not yet announced):
- Perpetual use of the v1.0 version you bought, on devices you own or control, for the play purposes described in Section 3.
- Bug-fix updates within the v1.x line. When we ship a patch that fixes a defect in v1.0 (v1.0.1, v1.0.2, etc.), it's free to all v1.0 owners.
- Best-effort email support at our published contact address. We aim to respond within five business days, with no guaranteed SLA. We are a small studio; please be patient.
- Founder copy honored if you participated in early access — your v1.0 access is free, with optional Founder recognition in the app.
What it does not entitle you to:
- A specific response time beyond best-effort.
- Custom support for AI provider issues. If your Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or other model provider rate-limits you, denies your account, changes their terms, or breaks something on their side, that is between you and that provider. We will help where we can but cannot fix what is not ours.
- Future major versions (v2.0+) without re-purchase, unless we explicitly state otherwise at the time.
- Refunds beyond the window described below.
Refunds
We offer a 14-day refund window from the date of purchase, no questions asked, for any reason. Email us; we will issue a refund through whichever channel we received the payment.
Beyond 14 days, refunds are evaluated case-by-case. We will be reasonable; reasonable means we say yes to clear product defects that prevented you from using The Weaver, and we may say no to "I stopped enjoying it after three months."
What counts as unsupported
- Early-access versions are explicitly as-is. Because early access is pay-what-you-want, any contribution is a voluntary contribution rather than a purchase of a defect-free product, and is refunded at itch.io's discretion under its own terms. If an early-access build breaks, please report it via the in-app feedback button so we can fix it for the next release.
- Behavior that depends on a third-party provider's terms (e.g., the "Sign in with ChatGPT" path stops working because OpenAI changed something) is not a defect we will refund for — we will document the alternative paths and help you transition, but the cause is not in our control.
- Use outside the licensed scope (commercial redistribution, multi-user paid services built on top of The Weaver, etc.) is not supported at any tier. See Section 3 + Section 7.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The "Last updated" date at the top will change, and material changes will be announced in the project's release notes and Discord. Continued use after the update means you accept the new terms. If you don't accept them, stop using the app.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence requires otherwise. [This clause is a draft pending lawyer review before public publish — task #29. Sunrunner Studios is being incorporated in Ontario, Canada; the placeholder previously read "U.S. state" in error.]
